Aphrose (aka Joanna Mohammed) is an independent soul music artist based in Toronto. Raised in the culturally diverse neighbourhoods of Scarborough, Aphrose’s musical tastes were shaped by all of the various genres present in her Trinidadian household. Aphrose combines powerful vocals with her love for live instrumentation, to create music that illustrates her reverence for soul icons such as Aretha Franklin and Stevie Wonder and also the influence of contemporary artists including Sza and Teyana Taylor.

Aphrose introduced herself to hundreds of thousands of new fans singing to sold-out crowds as the tour opener for Canadian musical power couple Raine Maida (of Our Lady Peace) and Chantal Kreviazuk’s new collaborative project Moon vs Sun in 2019. Her 2019 debut album, Element, is  available on all major streaming platforms and has attained over 100,000 plays on Spotify.
