Kayla Borden is an African Nova Scotian/Jamaican Maroon music executive whose work spans across Canada. She is a DJ, film & Event Producer, Curator and Entrepreneur currently residing in Nova Scotia. Kayla began her work developing artists across Nova Scotia over a decade ago and has worked as an Artist Manager, Event Producer, Event Promoter and Event Programmer. Kayla is dedicated to showcasing Black Music across Canada with an intimate understanding of the music industry and specific challenges emerging artists face. Kayla’s dynamic approach to equity work in the music industry comes from her years of work and well seasoned experience. She continues developing emerging talent and has been invited to jury for the Polaris Music Prize, ANSMA Awards, JSR FACTOR stream, RBCx Music Prism Prize, Music Nova Scotia Week and Halifax’s Nocturne Festival.
Kayla is a community leader who has produced a number of culturally impactful programs through Emerging Lens Cultural Film Festival, as the Producer of Viola Desmond Tribute Concert and various showcases she has been called on to produce with North End Business Association and Youth Art Connection. Kayla’s work has a large impact on the local and national music scene. Through her roles as; sub-committee member for the 2024 JUNO Awards, ANSMA Program Lead and currently as Unity Charity’s Program Coordinator where she continues building bridges for emerging and established artists across Canada.
In 2022 Kayla Co-Founded Pineapple Express Media where she co-directed and co-produced Issa Scotian Ting, a docuseries on the Evolution of Hip Hop Sound in Nova Scotia. In 2024 PEMedia expanded and Kayla Co-Founded a record label, Aux Tale Gravy Music Group, launching with their first artist, Siddartha in 2025.
