Blue Lobelia is the contemporary classical solo project of Kjipuktuk (Halifax) based multi-instrumentalist, Rachel Bruch. Beginning with her debut album Perennial (2016), Blue Lobelia has captured audiences across Canada and abroad with a live performance that dances between improvised soundscape and intricately arranged composition.

Described as the auditory equivalent of, ‘walking through an enchanted forest’, her first full-length album, Beneath all Bloom, was named "2019’s Best Album" by The Coast.

In 2021 Blue Lobelia surprised us with a sprinkle of releases drawing from archival folk music influences, including, Folk Songs & Broadside Ballads, released by Big Turnip Records, ‘Please Don’t Cover Your Ears' commissioned for the EAC's ‘50 things’ project and her single, ‘Holding on Must Always Lead to Letting Go’.

Her latest full length record, 'Resilient Moon' (2022) showcases her collaborative growth with the added element of percussion and a focus on folk-centric guitar playing and unfettered string arranging. It was warmly received with a MNS nomination for ‘Best Folk/Roots Recording of the Year’and was named in The Coast’s ‘Top 10 Albums of 2022’.

These days she is hard at work studying Italian Mountain Folk Fiddle, recording her forthcoming album (August 2024) and arranging/recording strings for numerous Canadian artists.
