A life-long practice of emotional translation through the reorganization of words and sounds, music has invariably been a place where Sophia Sanford can articulate specific truths; telling stories poetically, turning pain to power. They bring a depth of emotion to their music production that echoes an eerie beauty, the result of an obsession with the voice and all things sound. Sonic expression is a space of sacred processing for Sanford, something they explore through production and performance.Sophia offers technical and creative support to a wide range of sound projects. Self expressoin and community are the intersection where joy lives for Sophia. She is always looking to deepen her technical skills through giving and receiving mentorship and revels in the opportunities that her work presents to understand sound, nature, and culture on deeper levels. Their passion lies in translating these experiences into pleasurable activities centered around sound, self expression, and connection.
2024 saw the launch of Noise Machine, a residency space and studio supporting artist and arts professionals creatively accessing nature and both production & rest practices, all nestled in the coastal qathet region of BC. Sophia sees 2025 launch Noise Machine as a label supporting a small roster of artists with their releases. She continues to release her own work while supporting artists with a growing team of partners located across Canada, London, UK, Sweden, and Denmark, sharing her own opportunities with all artists she serves. She looks forward to the upcoming releases and events in 2025, hoping to grant access to the space to as many artists as possible while releasing her first ambient album, and seeing multiple other projects release through Noise Machine! She’s just here for the music.
